FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jacksonville, Florida – Georgia Power Company (GPC), the largest of four electric utilities owned by Southern Company, recently selected Fred Wilson & Associates to design upgrades for three power substations.

The largest of the three projects requires engineering for major upgrades to GPC’s 230kV/115kV/69kV Thomasville Substation.  FW&A designs will include layout modifications to the 230kV and 115kV bus configurations and the addition of bus tie circuit breakers and associated current transformers.

GPC has also asked FW&A to design upgrades to the utility’s North Griffin and Pittman Rd. substations.  Both projects include designs for the replacement of an obsolete oil circuit breaker with a new 115kV SF6 breaker and upgrades to the 115kV capacitor banks and capacitor bank controls.
